Helping Communities with Preparedness, Response and Recovery
The Institute is devoted to assisting North Carolina communities before, during and after disasters. To do so, it has three objectives for community assistance:
Disaster Intelligence Team
This team will be formed from the Institute's multidisciplinary and inter-institutional inventory of experts. Using state-of-the-art technologies, the team will be able to provide communities with real-time data, short-term forecasts and analyses of these data during the midst of a disaster.
Community Outreach Center
The Institute will form a community outreach center to assist communities as they plan to mitigate against losses due to disasters. The Center will assist with the generation of inventories of environmental and technological risks, the resources to respond to those risks as well as assessments of the communities' vulnerability to those risks. Assistance with developing response plans, recovery programs and mitigation strategies will also be provided.
Technical Assistance to Private Sector
The Institute will offer instruction and technical advice to businesses concerned with maintaining continuity and avoiding disruption from disasters. It will also conduct research and provide information on opportunities for new business formation in the areas of hazard mitigation and disaster recovery.
