Organization
The Institute
for Disaster Studies builds on the strengths of existing academic, research,
extension and outreach units in North Carolina's systems of 16 universities
and 58 communtiy
colleges. It brings together the multiple disciplines that currently
exist and capitalizes on
changing environmental and technological conditions, as well as regional,
national and global
political conditions to attract new faculty and staff. Additional
resources are used to strengthen
area that offer an increased opportunity for support in addressing a wide
range of disaster
issues.
The Institute's staff is supported by two advisory
boards:
The Policy Advisory Board (7 members) consists of nationally recognized mitigation experts and representatives of public and private stakeholder organizations.
The Technical Advisory Board (12 members) consists of North Carolina mitigation experts, public official and emergency management professionals.
